Dr Alexander Lowen suggests that thoughts and feelings are ideas in the mind.
We use a certain amount of energy to keep those stories alive. We can fan those emotions and get caught up in those ideas and stories.
What could be more helpful in the present moment is to notice when those thoughts and feelings arise. Have an awareness and understanding that they arise in the body so we need to move our bodies to help the process.
The earlier we catch the stories the less the storyline can develop.
Right here, right now; without bias or judgement, you and your mind is okay.
Is there one line from one song you can think of right now? Perhaps a line from a film. Now your mind is in present awareness and functioning in the here and now.
